The Columbia Guide to Standard American English

stigma (n.)

has two plurals: the borrowed Greek stigmata and the regular English stigmas

Americans pronounce stigmas STIG-muhz, but we have three pronunciations for stigmata: STIG-muh-tuh, stig-MAH-tuh, and stig-MAT-uh;

the British also have stig-MAIT-uh.

Where a semantic (語義學的) distinction is maintained between the two plurals, stigmata is sometimes used for real marks or scars, visible to the eye, whereas stigmas may be invisible figurative marks.

But these are not very powerful generalizations. Stigmata sounds more Formal to most audiences, and some Christians use it only in referring to Jesus’s wounds.
